Description

Capital of the Hauts-de-France region , Lille is a city in the North. Still nicknamed the Capital of Flanders today, Lille and its surroundings belong to the historical region of Roman Flanders . If it bears the name "Lille " - in old French "Lisle" and " rijsel" in Dutch both meaning " island" - it is because in the past, the city was surrounded by the Deûle. The TGV arrived in Lille in 1993 and the Eurostar in 1994. Every year, on the first weekend of September, the Grande Braderie is held there, the largest flea market in Europe which attracts nearly 2 million spectators. Once an important brewing center, Lille is the birthplace of brands such as Pelforth, Pélican, Excelsior and Coq Hardi.

The Line represented the skyline of Lille seen from the Church of the Sacred Heart .
