Description

A Belgian city in the Flemish region, Antwerp was home to the Boerentoren until 1949 , the oldest and only skyscraper in Europe . The people of Antwerp are also called Sinjoren , from the Spanish señor , a legacy of the time when the city was part of the Habsburg Empire of Charles V. Antwerp is sometimes called koekenstad , the city of biscuits, in reference to the koffiekoeken of Antwerp, biscuits covered with a fine coffee glaze, famous throughout Belgium . Known for being home to some of the most prestigious diamond dealers , as well as the largest diamond exchange in the world, the Antwerpse Diamantkring , the city devotes an entire district to the precious stone, where almost half of the world's diamonds are cut! One of the first two printed newspapers in the world was published in 1605, in Antwerp (the Nieuwe Tijdingen ).

The Line depicted the skyline of Antwerp as seen from the left bank of the city.
